Certified Public Accountant

Following graduating from Chapman University in 2021 I spent the beginning of 2022 as a part-time graduate student, collegiate athlete, and prepared for the CPA exam. During that time I studied for, took, and passed all 4 sections of the CPA exam in my first attempt and became fully licensed in the state of California in August of 2023 (CA License # 153611).

Andersen

I spent my first two full years (2022-2024) as a professional at Andersen, after interning there in both 2020 and 2021. During my time at Andersen, I was promoted to Senior Associate and gained unparalleled opportunities to lead, learn, and work in tax, business, family offices, and entities.

Starting my career within a smaller office at a mid-size firm provided me with experiences that are not typically available to most professionals in their first two years of work. Early on, I was given opportunities to lead engagements, correspond with clients, solve problems, collaborate with firm leaders, lead firm trainings, support our recruiter in the search for new associates and interns, and work on various types of engagements. This experience has been invaluable in shaping my professional development and expertise at such an early point in my career.

While I had the opportunity to work on partnerships, S-Corps, C-Corps, trusts, individuals, gift tax returns, and foundations, my main area of focus was on entity work, specifically flow-through entities. I also had the chance to work on multiple consulting projects regarding various tax and business topics, including cost segregation reports, profit interest model allocations, K-2/K-3 reporting, administrative adjustment requests, and financial statement analysis.

Below, you will find detailed breakdowns of the technical work I conducted during my tenure at Andersen.

Individuals

I worked extensively with real estate and investment partnerships.

The real estate partnerships I worked with spanned both residential and commercial properties. Additionally, I engaged in consulting aspects of real estate partnerships, particularly in cost segregation. The size of these partnerships varied, encompassing those with 1-2 properties and $50,000 to $300,000 in income, as well as larger partnerships with 15+ properties and over $1,000,000 in income.

My most significant engagement, in terms of workload and responsibility, involved managing the investment partnerships for a family office, where I served as the lead Senior for over a year. This engagement encompassed four investment partnerships, with assets under management (AUM) ranging from $25,000,000 to $650,000,000. The investments spanned a diverse range, including funds, private equity, co-investments, direct investments, real estate, venture capital, equities, commodities, foreign assets, and derivatives.

We managed comprehensive tax compliance for these clients, which included preparing four federal tax returns, up to eight state returns per partnership, foreign reporting requirements, K-2/K-3 reporting, and handling complex allocations as dictated by the operating agreements.

In addition to tax compliance, we conducted several consulting engagements, which involved developing profit interest models, resolving state and federal tax notices, analyzing and reporting on financial statements, and implementing various tax strategies.

I gained significant experience with various S-Corps., including two notable ones in the manufacturing industry. One had $250,000,000 in assets and $300,000,000 in annual revenue, while the other had $1,200,000,000 in assets and $2,500,000,000 in annual revenue. These engagements offered me valuable exposure to different aspects of manufacturing from both tax and business perspectives. Additionally, both projects presented unique challenges, such as preparing for a business sale, dealing with tight deadlines, and navigating through an F-reorganization.

I had limited experience with C-Corps, primarily working on a few small operating C-Corps mainly through consulting engagements. Additionally, I had the opportunity to work on a holding C-Corp in the aviation sector, which involved various tax planning and compliance projects.

I acquired experience working with trusts, including a notable engagement involving a trust with over $6 million in annual income. This role covered all aspects of compliance, including federal and state tax return preparation, extension and estimate planning, and consulting on complex financial management and tax strategy issues related to the trust.

I handled a range of individual tax returns, from simple to highly complex cases, including managing the tax implications of a family-run business sale. My responsibilities encompassed all aspects of tax preparation, including federal and state returns, as well as extension and estimate planning and preparation. This ensured comprehensive and accurate handling of each client’s unique tax situation.

EY

In August 2024, I joined EY's Financial Services Assurance group in Boston. This significant shift in many regards of my life has provided me with the valuable opportunity to be part of a prestigious organization that is an industry leader in the audit and financial services sector. I am excited to embark on this new chapter of my career, which will allow me to gain continued expertise in my field while also challenging me as a professional.
